Abstract

The end of the extensive Japanese missions to Sui and Tang China in the middle of the ninth century did not call a halt to Sino-Japanese contacts. This short piece translates and annotates a chart compiled by Ueda Takeshi of verifiable (month and year) voyages between the two countries covering the 1,000-year period from the mid-ninth through the early nineteenth centuries. Readers are encouraged to offer corrections and/or additions.
